Responding to the BBC's shocking report (Click to view) on Hastings' Reform candidate's Islamophobic social media record, local Liberal Democrat President, the Reverend Paul Hunt, said,

'In loving memory of our former treasurer, trustee, vice-president and member of more than 50 years, Ali Khan, and in support of his son Shahid and all the family; and in support of the wider Muslim community in Hastings & St Leonards, Liberal Democrats condemn the Reform UK candidate's baseless and inflammatory Facebook posts as reported by the BBC.

'We support calls from our MP and other local leaders for Nigel Farage to expel racists and Islamophobes from his party, although we appreciate that this will take up a lot of his time.

'We ask all residents to consider their vote very carefully on 7 May. We want to maintain Hastings & St Leonards as an open, welcoming, creative and vibrant place to live and work, and to raise a family.'
