LibDems want an East Sussex Alliance
Hello Everyone.
East Sussex County Council led by the Conservatives is poised to make £55 million worth of cuts which will hit the most vulnerable residents.
East Sussex County Council led by the Conservatives is poised to make £55 million worth of cuts which will hit the most vulnerable residents. Further cuts are expected later in the year as the budget process continues. Cllr David Tutt, Leader of the Liberal Democrat opposition group explains:
“The legacy of the last 14 years of Conservative government is a public sector that has been starved of funds. Locally, the Conservatives had said that they would maintain a core offer of statutory services but these budget proposals for 2025/2026 show that they can’t even do that.
The situation for our most vulnerable residents is frankly appalling and as a group of Liberal Democrat councillors, we will do all we can to oppose these cuts. We will look at every aspect of the budget to try to find alternatives.
The last hope for local government is a rescue package from the Labour government and we are calling on them to provide at least some temporary funding to enable us to protect older people, children with special educational needs and those in need of preventative care.
This is now an opportunity for the Labour government to show that they are different to Conservatives who continually put self-interest and profit before caring for communities and public service.”

The Liberal Democrats' bold plan to restore UK leadership in science and innovation will drive investment, boost global collaboration, and ensure technology benefits everyone, not just the privileged few.
Reflecting on the year’s International Women’s Day theme of “accelerate action”, I am sadly reminded of how much more we still need to achieve.
The UK needs to strengthen both our Armed Forces and our soft power.
